How to Set Your Default OpenXR Runtime
How to change the OpenXR runtime for Oculus, Windows mixed reality and HTC VR headsets.
To set your default OpenXR runtime follow the step by step guide that corresponds with the VR headset of your choice.
NB! Note that your VR software must be running with admin rights to set a default OpenXR runtime. If this also fails, then try this page. Link to advanced possible fix.
Also note that setting your computer’s OpenXR Runtime is not related to Vrex, so our Academy pages may not be comprehensive on the subject. The problem can vary between IT configurations. So please reach out and we’ll get to the bottom of it with you. support@vrex.no
Meta Quest Link (Oculus)

- Open Meta Quest Link
- Navigate to Settings -> General
- Click the ‘Set Meta Quest Link as active’ button to choose Meta Quest as your active OpenXR runtime
- If you are using older Oculus software version, this option may be under ‘General’
HTC

Set Vive Console as active OpenXR Runtime
- Start Vive Console
- If your runtime is not set to Vive a popup will appear
- Select yes to set Vive as the default OpenXR Runtime
SteamVR
1. Open SteamVR
2. Open the settings from the hamburger menu

3. Select settings

4. Select OpenXR

5. Set SteamVR as OpenXR Runtime

6. Jump back to VREX and you’re all set!
