Choosing Object Selection Resolution
In Navisworks, when using the Select tool, you’ll notice options like “Geometry” and “Last Object” in the Selection Resolution settings. These affect how Navisworks interprets and resolves your selection when you click on something in the model. The same two options are available in Vrex when using the “Info mode” button.
“Last Object” is set as default. If the setting is changed to “Geometry”, models need to be re-uploaded and repossessed.

Here’s the difference:
Geometry
- What it does: Selects the actual geometry of the model — the physical 3D shape, such as surfaces, faces, and edges.
- Use case: When you want very granular control, like selecting individual faces or mesh components.
- Typical scenario: Inspecting parts of an object that are otherwise grouped or embedded within containers (like IFC or Revit elements).
Last Object
- What it does: Selects the last/highest-level object in the model hierarchy that the geometry is part of.
- Use case: Better for selecting logical or complete objects, like an entire wall, pipe, or equipment piece.
- Typical scenario: Good for object-based workflows like property inspection or BIM coordination.
